Places to go, people to see on high fire risk days

This consultation has concluded.

Living in a bushfire prone area comes with some risks and responsibilities.  One of those responsibilities is having a bushfire plan that includes a range of things to do on high fire risk days such as activities where to go for the day, where to stay overnight if necessary, and need to conisder pets and all household residents (children, older family members, family members with a disability, house guests etc).

Every year we receive dozens of calls from people wanting to know where they can go on high fire risk days, so to assist these people we thought we'd ask the community.  Yarra Ranges will then publish the list on Council's website.  We hope that this list will assist people living in fire prone areas in their decision-making.

Whether you live in a bushfire prone area, or not, we want to hear your suggestions.  This survey will provide the opportunity to share with the community your ideas and assist people at the same time.

When completing the survey questions below please consider activities that are free as well as those that have a cost associated with them for example Lilydale Lake, Melbourne Museum, Chirnside Park Shopping Centre etc.

Whilst many people have a plan to leave their home and visit family or friends on a high fire risk day, there are just as many people who don't have family or friends outside of their local area to visit.  What ideas do you have to assist these people?

Many people have young children to consider in their bushfire planning.  For people who don't have family or friends to visit, it can be a daunting task taking young children out for an entire day, and it can end up being a costly exercise.

Many people plan to stay at home on a high fire risk day because of their pets, and others leave their home and worry all day about their pet at home.  What places can you think of that are pet friendly to assist these people?
